Director of Fight Interpretation at the Royal Armories in Leeds, England, Mr. John Waller will give a special workshop on the Waller Method of Historical Fencing used by the new European Historical Combat Guild (EHCG). This unique event will focus on great-sword and rapier & dagger: European Historical Combat – The Waller Way ("reality first…tricks are for the impressionable!")

  • Instruction on making HACA Padded Contact Weapons, Q&A Dinner, Demonstrations of New Training Equipment, Vendors and Arms Dealers, Purpleheart Armory will display their Wasters, wooden swords and other practice weapons for sale.
  • Each attendee taking part in hands-on classes will receive a Certificate of Attendance signed by all three instructors.

wpe5.jpg (28505 bytes)HACA IS proud to present the first American appearance of historical arms expert, John Waller: By special exclusive arrangement with the HACA, this is the first time Mr. Waller has taught in America, giving attendees an unprecedented opportunity to see first hand the Royal Armouries’ method and receive hands-on instruction in person. Mr. Waller is a martial artist, jouster, fight-arranger, and 30+ year veteran of historical fencing and stage combat, is founder of the new European Historical Combat Guild (EHCG), and co-author of a new book on historical combat for performance fighting. He was a theatrical fight instructor at leading London drama schools and is known for the fights he arranged for the cult-film Hawk the Slayer and Monty Python and the Holy Grail! Mr. Waller will be accompanied by his son, Johnathan Waller, long-time martial artist and founding member of the EHCG. A special video of the Royal Armories fight interpretation team will be shown followed by demonstrations, exercise, and instruction. Read an interview with Mr. Waller here.

Unlimited admission for both days events is only $100, $75 for registered HACA members. Equipment will be provided, space is limited. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own blunt swords, wasters, and equipment (no sharp blades please). Join us afterwards for a social dinner outing at the 3 Dollar Cafe - Saturday night. Lunch break from 12:00-1:00 each day.  This is a rare chance to meet, learn from and interact with leading experts in Medieval and Renaissance arms and armor and gather with fellow historical swordplay enthusiasts.

Rates $59 a night for a single king or double room (up to 2 guests, additional guests per room add $6 each). Includes free continental breakfast. Hotel is across from the event location.
*Make sure to specify they must ask for HACA Group Rate!*

Local Transportation from Atlanta airport:
- Taxi from airport to hotel/event site - up to $78
- MARTA (local subway) to Dunwoody Station, approx. 3 miles from hotel. The hotel has a shuttle service which can pick up attendees from the subway station free of charge. Be sure to advise the hotel in advance your will need a ride.The MARTA bus (#5) runs from the Dunwoody station to the hotel. Taxis from there run approx. $8 - $9. The hotel shuttle bus runs on Friday 9 AM to 5 PM but not Sat or Sun, however.
- AAA Airport Express: 1-888-354-7874. $20 per person each way – private shuttle bus will take you directly to the hotel. Reservations must be made in advance.
